2016 - KIFF KOMBI TOURS
Can you describe what sparked the idea for Kiff Kombi Tours?
Drew:
I’d just finished uni and was working a cadet job in construction in Brisbane. Long hours, pretty average pay, but it gave me a solid skillset. I ended up quitting, flew to Cape Town on a whim, and took the long way there (a four-month overland truck journey through Africa).
Somewhere in the Namib Desert, half-baked from the heat and dust, a thought popped up: what if I bought a beat-up Kombi and started showing people the side of Cape Town I was craving: hidden food joints, backstreet art, 'lekker' local playlists, and innovative wine farms no one had heard of? No tourist fluff. Just proper city soul. It made no sense but also perfect sense all at once. By the time I arrived, I was hunting for a Kombi.
What was the very first experience you designed—and how did it go?
Drew:
It was a full-sensory journey through Cape Town: street art murals in Woodstock, beer flights at Devil’s Peak, Chapman’s Peak Drive with the windows down, and a sundowner among the boulders above Clifton. The van broke down a few times that first year, I remember thinking, What have I done? But the experiences we made landed! People were moved. And thankfully, I made just enough coin to upgrade the Kombi and keep the wheels turning.
2021 - KIFF & CULTURE
As the Kombi journeys picked up pace, so did the need for fresh energy, and that’s when Alex and Angus jumped on board. Long-time friends from school, Drew, Alex, and Angus officially launched Kiff & Culture in 2021. Angus brought his sharp eye for business development and finance, while Alex, the self-proclaimed Director of Good Times, took the reins on marketing and communications. Together, they took the raw, instinctive character of Kiff Kombi’s early days and shaped it into something more structured, but never less spirited, here in Australia.
What did you learn in delivering experiences across countries?
Drew:
That every place has its rhythm, and you need to learn how to tune in to offer the best experiences. In South Africa, it’s resilience and story. In Australia, it’s ease and elemental beauty. The biggest learning was that you can scale without losing soul. When you build something intentionally and stay rooted in connection, growth can be an amplifier, not a compromise.
What key highlights stood out between 2021–2025?
Alex:
Watching our guests shift. They went from local hens parties and birthdays to creative directors, multigenerational families, and founders. Also, seeing how much more they wanted than just premium, they wanted presence. This was something we really took our time exploring. We started curating with chefs, Indigenous artisans and storytellers, local producers…people who brought a unique kind of soul.
Was there a moment when you thought, “this could be something bigger?”
Drew:
We were on the northern and remote part of Moreton Island, serving post-surf beers around a beach BBQ with Olympic surf coach and former world champion, Bede Durbidge, and guests who were just blown away. Someone said, “You can't get more of a quintessential Aussie experience than this!” That blend of wild beauty, adventure, and quiet luxury, it really struck something deep. I knew then we had something worth building.
KIFF & CULTURE & REVELING
What sparked the decision to create Reveling?
Drew:
Kiff & Culture still had its charm, but we were evolving. We weren’t just doing great food and fun days, now we were curating helicopter landings on mountain-top estates, chef-in-residence villa retreats, and Indigenous art trails that left guests speechless. We needed a brand that matched that depth. Reveling captured that spirit, of being immersed, present, and fully in the moment.
What internal shifts did you have to make?
Angus:
Behind the scenes, a lot of things had to mature. Better systems and clearer guest flows. My focus turned to making the backend as seamless as the front—a clean structure from start to finish.
What early lessons helped shape Reveling’s direction?
Alex:
Small, thoughtful touches! Those surprise and delight moments always go a long way. They’re not expensive, but they make guests stop and think, wow, this is incredibly considered. We learnt early that the best experiences aren’t always the most expensive, but the most intentional. Designed for emotion, not for socials. Our rule of thumb is if it doesn’t feel deeply local or if it doesn’t move you, it’s not Reveling.

What hasn’t changed?
Drew:
Our belief that people are the pulse of a place. It’s always been about connection—real, human, local. Whether it’s a chef, an artist, or a guide sharing country, those relationships are what turn an itinerary into a memory. That sense of community is what makes a Reveling experience stick long after the moment has passed.
What does it mean to build experiences that are luxurious, extraordinary, and sustainable?
Alex:
It means crafting with the utmost care. From experience, luxury isn’t glitz. It’s time, space, and feeling seen. It’s a local chef sharing creations from their seasonal harvest, a weaver telling the story behind her craft, or a perfectly timed moment with no one else around. It can look like a million different things, but If it uplifts the place and leaves a memory behind—it’s extraordinary.

What’s a moment that reminded you why you do this?
Drew:
Recently, we ran a Dreamtime Art Trail in the Northern Rivers region. After an impactful storytelling session from the local artist, one guest just sat in stillness after they finished speaking. Then quietly said, “I didn’t expect to feel this.” That’s the gold, that deep, unexpected emotional resonance. That’s why we do it.
OUR APPROACH
Our Roles at Reveling
Drew: I lead product development and experience design across Reveling Australia and Africa. I get involved when briefs need creativity, flow, and raw, unforgettable moments. I love shaping itineraries that feel personal and story-led. The wildest ideas are usually the ones that land.
Alex: I bring the experience to life both in the design process and on the ground. We want to make sure every guest moment is seamless, immersive and deeply human. I love working closely with our partners to create and deliver something that’s tailored for our guests and gives them the feeling of a true understanding of our region.
If it moves people, allows them to connect with our amazing partners and a region we’re doing it right.
Angus: I’m responsible for the business development and finance side of things, so designing the systems that keep everything humming (from guest flows to internal ops). I’m behind the curtain making sure the experience feels effortless.
How has Reveling shifted the luxury travel space?
Alex: We’ve shown that high-end doesn’t have to mean high-gloss. That real luxury is human, curious, and quietly impeccable.
What feedback surprises you?
Alex:
When someone says, “I wish I spent longer in this place”, That’s when you know you’ve created real space.
So, what’s next for Reveling?
Drew:
Right now, we’re playing with a cross-continental focus, immersing guests in South Africa’s Winelands or whisking them off to a luxury villa for a fire to fork outdoor dining experience with Indigenous storytelling in Byron. Seeing how we can emphasise meaningful and sustainable travel. Partnering with villa residencies and exploring culture-led cuisine. Through all this development, we’re ensuring it’s always local, always intimate.
What do you hope people feel after a Reveling experience?
Drew: We want them to feel present, elevated and changed. More than just holiday escapism, guests should feel like they were able to deeply immerse themselves in a story that will stick with them forever.
